Ottawa Community Housing is a leader in providing safe, affordable homes and we are constantly innovating to meet the housing needs of our city and the most vulnerable segment of the population. We recognize that there is a need to build more affordable homes in Ottawa, which is why we continue to work with our partners and with all levels of government to build new homes and revitalize existing communities.
On this National Housing Day, let us all take a moment recognize the important work being done by social housing providers, shelters, partners such as the community health and resource centres, as well as the investments being made by all three levels of government to build more affordable housing here in Ottawa.
In 2018 alone, OCHC has planned $54.2 million as a part of its Capital Investment Program. This amount includes funds assigned to new builds, rebuilds, repairs, and maintenance. OCHC is building new homes in the following communities:
- Ashgrove Community – 16 new homes ($5 million investment over multiple years)
- Carlington Community – 42 new homes ($18 million investment over multiple years)
- Rochester Heights – approximately 150 new homes ($34 million investment over multiple years)
It is only together that we can build stronger communities. Let us continue to make social and affordable housing a priority in Ottawa and the rest of Canada.
QUOTE
“On this National Housing Day, I wish to thank all three levels of government, as well as our partners for their support. Thanks in part to these partnerships, OCH is able to deliver quality services to tenants, nurture safe, healthy, and inclusive communities, and innovate to meet the housing needs of our city. Working together, we can accomplish great things.” –Stéphane Giguère, Chief Executive Officer
